The Garden Collective Wins at the Garden Media Guild Awards
Channel founder James Alexander-Sinclair crowned digital writer of the year
Last Friday the corridors and salons of the Savoy Hotel bulged with representatives of the garden media - feature writers, photographers, journalists, educators, television types, podcasters, videologists (is there such a word?), social media influencers and magazine editors.
The reason? The annual Garden Media Guild Awards: the day when gardeners put away their muddy boots, scrub the grime from beneath their nails and brush the compost from their hair. For the first time this year members of the Garden Collective were out in force. Channel founding member James Alexander-Sinclair and head of inspiration Jane Perrone were both shortlisted in the digital gardening writer of the year category and Sarah Raven made the finalists in the gardening columnist of the year category. Other members of the collective were drafted in to present awards and a others added tone and ebullience to the general proceedings. The end result was that one of our founding members, James Alexander-Sinclair won for five of his articles published exclusively on this platform.
The judges said ....With so many good entrants, the judges’ task was difficult but they felt that the winner of this category had researched their pieces especially well, giving us an insight into the historical facts with plenty of horticultural interest. This deep dive into the history has meant there are some obscure subjects written in a quirky manner and good humour. The winner writes well for the readership of the platform.
We thought it would be fun to celebrate this, the Collective's first win, by making those five articles free to all so that those stumbling upon the collective for the first time can judge for themselves. You can listen and read them here:

Congratulations must also go to Collective member Arit Anderson, who picked up an Outstanding Achievement Award for her work as a garden writer, presenter and garden designer. To celebrate Arit's win, you can listen to her interview with the RHS director general Clare Matterson for free. And Garden Collective community writer Andrew Jackson won in the newcomer category for his work as The New Build Manifesto. Well done to both!
At the moment (until 1st December) we have a special deal on subscriptions with the first month being just £1.00 and then £48 (that's 40% off) for a year thereafter.
Dip your toes into the Garden Collective, the water's lovely…
